Why does the feminist movement leave little room for other viewpoints?

Why do so many older modern feminists look at younger women with disgust and say they are ungrateful if they do not consider themselves feminists? I know plenty of young, intelligent women who have the utmost amount of respect for early women's rights leaders however after personal observation and research of their own many young women have come to the conclusion that modern feminism is a special interest group that just doesn't hold any of their interest. Why is it many young women are looked at with contempt when they, myself included, decide to forge their own paths and live independently of one-sided viewpoints? Actually Lisa, Paris Hilton considers herself a feminist icon. However, she said she could be considered a feminist icon. "I think so - I'm a strong woman who doesn't depend on a man for anything and I believe in girl power."

  1. small mindedness
  2. That's only certain groups like 3rd Wave and Radicals. Also Domestic Violence awareness groups are notorious for this garbage. Sometimes it's jealousy of youth in girls today because lots of girls have higher opportunities in life than boys which is a complete reversal of the way it used to be.
  3. Where do you meet these older feminists? In my opinion, we've all got a lot to be grateful to these feminists for - but I thought that most support the idea of personal choice in our lives. The fact that you and your friends can forge your own paths and live independently is due to the success of feminism. Would you like to explain more about this process? What paths are you following?
  4. I think they are frustrated with the lack of forethought that some young people operate with. And the Paris Hilton attitude of "Eewww feminism...I can't shave my legs!" gets on my last nerve. As if that was all its about.
  5. so with believing in girl power, do you have a ring and touch another girls ring and say "girl power rings activate" I mean what is that. And this I don't depend on a man for anything is a crock, because even men will depend on other men in certain circumstances. It's called community, solidarity. All feminism seems to champion is individualism, ego-stroking individualism. Nice movement. Nothing about the community, nothing about the next generation (only the female generation I guess), nothing about the family.
  6. The whole idea of Feminism requires they (the Feminists) get rid of all rivals, exterminate any competition, and this under the banner of "tolerance" and "equality". Well, we can certainly see what's meant when the Feminists say "equality". It's the same thing other people mean when they use the word "elitist" or "superiority" or "unequal". And if any person is not "grateful" to the Feminists for giving up things like ethics and personal responsibility, why, they have to be CONDEMNED. Mauled. Well, it's what they have done to men for decades, why should anyone else be spared?
